Adding SoulCulture To My List Of Duties

soulculture.jpg

I know it's been a while since i checked in. There's been a lot of stuff going on in my life- professional and personal. I'm just finishing up a lateral move from San Francisco, CA. to Oakland, CA. this week. My mother's been dealing with cancer once again. And I've been adding more artists to my worklist.

Another cool duty i'll be adding to my list is a partime stint of writing reviews for one of my favorite music sites on the web, SoulCulture.co.uk. Peace to the people there for giving me the opportunity to share my opinions on today's music.

Prototype Of Nu-Soul, Vol. 13

It's your boy, The Big La, back with some smooth R&B and Hip-Hop to keep your head noddin'

The years first 'Nu-Soul' mix brings us new indie music from The UK's Roxy 5000, Jesse Boykins III, and the Bay Area's lil sis, Femi (thanx for the intro, girlie!). Caron Wheeler (of Soul II Soul fame) brings us a hot remix, courtesy of Lord Finesse. Dionyza hijacks her parents original hit("Sunrise" by Michael and Brenda Sutton) and lays her beautiful voice on "I Told Myself".

Make no mistake. This is 100% quality smooth Hip-Hop and R&B- no filler! Stream- download- enjoy!

Who U Should Be Listening To: Outasight

I love it when an artist pops up that can't be easily defined. You can't just drop it in one of the bins at the record shop. They seem to touch multiple spots. That's how I feel about Outasight. This Yonkers, NY cat has a sound tha (at first) feels like one of the endless Rock+Hip-Hop mashup remixes that are popping up all over the web. But once your head starts noddin', you get that feeling of 'authenticity'.. He's a rapper? Singer? Who the hell cares. This cat's music is hot!
