What I’m Playing: Dragon Age: Origins

It’s been awhile since I got to play a good Role Playing Game. The last good one I played was Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II. After I got my new job (temporary, but good money) I got to treat myself to something. And better way to blow $60 than on an Xbox game that will take around 80 hours to play! Dragon Age is your typical RPG. There’s somethin evil that’s rising in the medieval lands and the only person who can stop the evil is some nobody kid who happens to have some secret power. I know it’s the same thing. But who cares. It’s a RPG! You’ll fight and level up and grab special weapons and at the end of the day, you slay the dragon or the evil and you’ve got your money’s worth

Dragon Age: Origins is a dark heroic fantasy set in a unique world. As the spiritual successor of BioWare’s popular Baldur’s Gate series of games, it uses a pause-and-play tactical combat system. Play in over-the-shoulder mode, or the more tactical top-down view. Dragon Age: Origins features a stunning amount of cinematic dialog. Players will be able to acquire unique party members. These party members will have their own motivations for accompanying the player.

Game Of The Moment: Fallout 3

Game Of The Moment: Fallout 3

Fallout 3 is a post-apocalyptic computer and console action role-playing game developed and published by Bethesda Softworks as the third installment in the Fallout series and a sequel to Interplay’s Fallout and Fallout 2. It was released on October 28 in North America, on October 31 in Europe and on December 4 in Japan. It is available on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game takes place in the year 2277 on the East Coast of what used to be the United States of America, mostly in Washington, DCMaryland andVirginia. The gameplay features include real-time combat and first or third person perspective, in contrast to the previous games, which were turn-based and isometric.

Information about the cancelled Fallout 3 project developed by Black Isle can be found in the Van Buren article.

At first, I hated this game. For some reason I couldn’t get a good start. For one thing, the introduction/tutorial is painstakingly long and slow. So it took a few tries to get to the real game. It basically takes you through your character’s birth and his childhood. Along the way, you learn the different controls in the game. I have to admit, as tutorials go it’s a genius way of incorporating it into the game.

Once you’re done and you’re let lose into the post-acopalyptic world, the game really starts to pick up. I’ve never been a fan of ‘action’ RPG’s. In fact, I can’t stand “Oblivion” (the game engine Fallout 3 is built on). But for some reason, the gameplay started to ‘click’. Now i’m running through the wasteland with a Combat Shotgun blowing heads off of mutants and raiders. Oh the fun…

I was a little scared at first, because I purchased all the damn add-on adventures prematurely. I spent a wad of money on extras anticipating how good the game would be. And when I didn’t like it at first, I was a little worried. But now.. It’s all love. The cool thing is how all the expansions are available during the game. I finished the Anchorage Alaska add-on without even knowing it.

So i’m loving it! Now i’m playing around 4 hours a day.
