I haven’t really been into the whole Apple Tablet propaganda. For years, companies have been trying to release a tablet PC, which have met with complete failure. I actually played with a few MOD powerbooks which were given touch-screens and called tablets. For the most part, they were pretty cool. The problem is that they are hella expensive.. more expensive than the laptops they’ve been created from AND you lose your keyboard. But after listening to the current episode of the TWiT podcast with Leo Laporte, John C. Dvorak, Ryan Block, Veronica Belmont, and Robert X. Cringely , I realize that the Apple Tablet would be made for me.
I realized that an Apple Tablet would fit greatly into my life. You’d probably say what i’ve been saying all this time. “If you have a laptop then you don’t need the table.” True. You don’t NEED it. But man, the ‘cool factory’ would be epic. For one, my wife has been asking for a device with a touchscreen that she could carry into the kitchen and access recipes from websites as she cooks. Plus, I have a digital comicbook collection of 6000+ that I read using the Mac app, ComicbookLover. To actually have a *maybe 15″) tablet with a touchscreen where I can store and read digital comics (and possibly video?) on a little thin device.. that would be cool as hell.
Essentially, it looks like this thing will be an overgrown iPodTouch. That’s not a bad thing. Take what you’ve made successful and make it work. After watching Dr. McKay on Stargate Atlantis walk around with one has made the geek factor even greater. We’ll see on January 26th if Apple’s bringing this product to the market. We’ve been waiting for years, so we’ll see..
