The Novel (Apocrypha) Keeps On GoingPosted on Sat, Dec 12, 2009
The zombie novel is coming along lovely. I have the first 7 chapters posted (but still editing) and another 4 getting cleaned up. If you can’t guess by the picture, this is a typical zombie apocalypse story with a twist (what that twist is, i don’t know yet. It’s a work in progress, for God sakes). So there are packs of survivors scattered around San Francisco, California who are trying to find a way out of the city, surrounded by millions of walking dead. Sound familiar? Hell yeah it is. Why mess with greatness? I’m not trying to re-write the genre. I love the genre the way it is. All I’m trying to do is do something AS GOOD as what has come before.
It’s funny. The first 6 chapters I had written in my head years ago. They’ve just been sitting in my brain waiting for my lazy ass to type them up. Those chapters were just the scenes that introduced and established my characters. Now.. this whole ‘moving the plot forward’ thing is a lot more difficult than I anticipated. Now I have all my players where they’re suppose to be. The big challenge now is figuring out how to get them all converging in the same direction, and more importantly, who’s going to survive the trip. The original plan to have just one character or no characters survive in the end. But I fell in love with most of them and it’s hard thing to kill off people when you know you can do so much more with them.
