Sampled Credit Searchs Made Easy!
One of my tasks this weekend was getting my mp3 music files in order. Now, when i say 'in order', i mean going all out! I'm going through EVERY damn song and making sure all the tags are correct (i.e. track name, artist, album, year, genre, producer, etc...). One of the cool things i added recently is 'sample credits', meaning all the songs I have that were sampled for other songs, I put that information into the 'comments' box. For example: for the song "Lowdown" by Charles Earland, i'd put in the comments box if the file's tags: "Sampled for 'Award Tour' by A Tribe Called Quest", or for "Never Gonna Stop" by Linda Clifford, I'd put "Sampled for "Street Dreams" by Nas.
Now. you can guess this 'sampled for' thing is a BIG task. But there's some dope tools online for you to use.
The main one i've beens using for years is The Breaks.com. It's a simple database that houses TONS of sample credit information. Although it doesn't seem to be updated that much, it has what you need for all the older song info you're looking for.
The cool-ass new one is Second Hand Songs.com. This place blew my mind. i found it by accident and now it's my main spot. It has the info you'd find on The Breaks.com. But just organized and cross-referenced better.
Check 'em out. They're both dope!
