Artist Spotlight: De La Soul

Well, it's been a hot minute since i dropped an 'Artist Spotlight'. The truth is, I've run out of artists to spotlight. Well.. that's not entirely true. There's still A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul... but Tradermike did such a dope job with his Native Tongue Radio.Blog, that it didn't seem neccessary.

But a'las, me and my boy Sean were talking about, and we got amped. So, I'm doing De La this week and he's doing a guest spot with Tribe next week. Now be warned. ALOT of your favorites might be missing from our blogs. The reason is there's so much good stuff, that it's impossible to put 'em all on. So, we're going under the idea of "if you were stuck on an island and could only bring 20-25 artist songs, which ones would it be?"

In any case, i love De La Souil. I have since the days of "Potholes". There pretty much the only consistent group left (that i can think of. Common lost it for a minute but came back. And i'm still waiting for The Roots' comeback).

i'm a big de la fan and i'm actually surprised by your list i probably would'nt choose two thirds of those. but i guess maybe that's just a testiment to their extensive and varied catalouge that two fans can have two completely different lists not only out five songs but from twenty five. some of my faves ... say no go 4 more ooooh a rollerskating jam named " saturdays " jenifer taught me dinninit supa emcees can u keep a secret and it's unfortunate to say but 'ring ring hey hey' has been spoiled for me by the hip hop ignorant " oh my god i like love that song " hey how u doin ... " it's like the best voicemail ever !" but maybe that's just me. I actually totally feel you on your comments, Knock. It's the main reason i've hesitated on doing a spotlight on De La. I spent so much time arguing with people on their favorites. You an ask 20 different people on the subject and get 20 totally different playlists. It's a big testament to the group dynamic sound. Your list is on point and i would'a added those, but i would'a ended up with a 50 track blog :) Thanx for the comment. Keep listening.
